Its flowering period is in early spring, while its fruiting period is in the autumn months, October and November. Its leaves are lanceolate with a slight difference in the color of the inner side from the outer.

The dogwood is a species, suitable for all semi-mountainous and mountainous areas of Greece for the production of traditional high-yield products. The dogwood is a deciduous tree (height 5-10 m.), well adapted to the climatic and soil conditions of our country, which thrives in almost all types of soil, from fertile to moderately fertile, wet or dry sandy loam to heavy clay. It is not affected by insects and pathogens.

It blooms at low temperatures down to -30 °C. It blooms in winter (February-March) and its flowers remain for about 2 months. The fruits are small, 2-4 cm, spherical in shape and ripen in late August and early September, when they acquire a bright red, shiny color. Dogwoods have a high content of antioxidants.

The wood of the dogwood is very hard and resistant to breakage. Various small objects are made from the hard wood of the dogwood. It is a plant that is rarely pruned. The fruits are usually collected by spreading nets and shaking the branches. The fruits are washed and either eaten fresh or used to make drinks, sweets and jams.
