Portuguese quince or Ekmek. It belongs completely to the category of "forgotten fruits". It has been cultivated since the time of Ancient Greece, very widespread in vegetable gardens and orchards until the beginning of the twentieth century, its cultivation is now very limited. The scientific name Cydonia comes from Cidonia, a city on the island of Crete from where the quinces came, which were called "Cydonia apples" in Roman times. Very robust plant, prefers soils with little limestone. In the past, the fruits were used to scent the linen drawer as an alternative to lavender.
