The Canadian sycamore-Platanus acerifolia astone-is an imposing tree of great height and fast growth. It is used in parks, squares, in tree rows and for shading in the garden. It can also be planted on sidewalks because it creates a deep root system that does not lift the slabs or other paving material. An extremely strong tree, it withstands the stresses of the urban environment, heat and strong winds.
Its leaves have five pointed shallow lobes and turn yellow in autumn. The trunk shows a high degree of exfoliation, which creates particularly embossed and beautiful patterns as the tree grows. Its flowers are discreet, appearing in spring and the males have yellowish edges, while the females are reddish. The fruits that form are spherical, initially green, but later reddish, and they remain hanging on the branches for a very long time, even in winter. It is a tree resistant to temperatures below -20ºC.
