Saccharum officinarum
The Saccharum plant can reach 4-5-6 meters in height. They have a diameter of 3 to 5 centimeters and reach 10 kilograms in weight, they can be yellow, purple or reddish in color and contain a syrupy liquid from which, after various industrial processes, sugar is obtained.
Its leaves are long, green and lanceolate. The culm that they will cover is divided into nodes and internodes and each leaf grows from a different node. The nodes are usually very close to the base of the culm and tend to be further away from the ground.
Its flowers are like spikes similar to those of oats and wheat, gathered in inflorescences called panicles that can reach 90 centimeters.
Its roots are cylindrical but not rhizomatous.
Sugarcane needs sunny locations to grow best.
Ideal soil for sugarcane
Sugarcane adapts well to most soils, as long as they are well drained. It prefers deep, light substrates, with a pH between 6.0 and 6.5.
Very easy plant for the pot with frequent watering in the summer.
