'Theta' is a new pollination variety of hazelnut (Corylus avellana L.). They were released by the Oregon Agricultural Experiment Station in January 2009 as pollinators for the late blooming 'Jefferson'. They have a very high level of resistance to eastern rhinitis caused by Anisogramma anomala (Peck) E.
Müller attributed to a dominant allele from 'Gasaway'. The pollen of 'Eta' and 'Theta', which drop pollen very late in the flowering period and are compatible with most varieties,
provides growers with additional pollination options.
