Blue_Sausage Exotic Tropical Fruit Blue_sausage or Dead_Mens_fingers or Banana_Blue with resistance up to -25oC (!!) and sweet taste of Watermelon gel. It comes from the Himalayas. Small tree 2-3m high. .Decaisnea fargesii. Fruit blue like a bean, size 10cm. ripens in September. It is suitable for Greece even in very mountainous areas. Loves moisture, sun and partial shade, sandy loam soils PH 5.5-7.5. An unusual, deciduous shrub, with yellow/green flowers in late spring up to 35 - 45 cm long. These beautiful flowers are followed by giant and very decorative, metallic-blue bean pods in the fall.

Decaisnea fargesii has large dark green, pinnate leaves, which can reach 80 cm in length on established plants. An impressive, fruit-bearing shrub with an exotic appearance! 

Position: Full sun or partial shade.

Soil: Wet, fertile soil. Decaisnea fargesii generally does not grow well in dry soil.

Hardness: Durable. Although fully hardy when dormant in winter, Decaisnea fargesii requires protection from any severe frost once the new leaves emerge in spring.

Flowering period: May - June

Growth Rate: Moderate.

Habit: Decaisnea fargesii will become a large, branching shrub with an open habit.
