The Japanese Camellia is an evergreen shrub with leaves that are glossy and dark green on the upper surface and light green and rough on the underside. Loves shade and acidic soils. It has a long flowering with impressive flowers - single or double - of various colors, depending on the subvariety. It grows slowly and withstands temperatures up to -12/-15. Prefers shady places with north or east exposure, low pH and cool spots. Protecting the Camellia is essential, as well as moving it to a sheltered place if possible.
