Product description

PRECOCE MIGOULE (gal wasp) resistant is a natural cross between the European chestnut (Castanea sativa) and a Japanese chestnut (Castanea crenata) discovered by J. Dufrenoy in a Migule orchard in Brive-la-Gaillarde. In France.

The excellent early ripening chestnut is an excellent choice for colder northern climates where it will reliably ripen before frost.
Blooms are also early and slightly frost sensitive, but nuts are also formed on secondary buds.

Its large fruits store well, have good to excellent flavor, peel easily, and fall in mid to late September and early October without machinery or special effort.

The trees are vigorous with annual growth of 1m. It starts fruiting very soon in the 2nd to 4th year from planting, with full production of nuts from year 12 to 20, depending on conditions. These are large trees, reaching 20m if conditions are right, with a spread of up to 10m in diameter.

An excellent variety that will produce reliable early crops and provide excellent pollination for any castanea sativa (European and European cross) chestnut, including Marron di Marradi and Marron de Lyon. Pollinators for this tree include Marigoule, Marsol, Tsukuba and Vignols.
