Product description

Hamburg Muscat Hamburg Muscat is a grape variety that belongs to the Muscat family and stands out for its red grapes and its very intense aroma. It was created by crossing Muscat of Alexandria and Black Muscat in Hamburg, Germany (hence its name). In the 19th and 20th it was planted in various countries of Central and Southeast Europe. In Greece it was planted at the beginning of the 20th century, mainly in Thessaly after the destruction of the local vineyard by phylloxera.

It produces white, rosé and light red wines with very strong aromas of rose and bergamot, soft tannins and moderate acidity, oily mouthfeel and relatively high alcohol. The above characteristics make Hamburg Muscat an ideal variety for the production of quality aromatic sparkling wines in Thessaly. It forms the basis for the production of tsipouro and grape spirits in Thessaly as its quality characteristics are expressed much more strongly with distillation: expressive floral and citrus aromas on the nose and soft and full-bodied in the mouth.
