Product description

The Keitt mango is a very late  season mango variety that originated in California. The Keitt mango was selected for its cold hardiness and late ripening. Keitt mangoes turn from orange-green to bright green with a red to orange blush when ripe. Keitt fruit is fiberless and smooth in texture, with golden orange flesh and a delicate flavor with good sweetness. The perfect mango to extend your picking season into the Fall.

The Keitt mango was almost certainly a Brooks seedling, even though it was reported to be from Mulgoba. He was drafted by JN Keitt of Homestead, FL in 1945 and quickly received recognition for his heavy production in the final season as well. Commercial growers in Florida quickly planted it and it became one of the most commonly propagated varieties thereafter. It is now one of the most widely cultivated mangoes in the Western Hemisphere, having been adopted for production by exporters in many of the mango growing regions of Latin America.

The fruits are large to very large, weighing over 1 kg in many cases, with an oval-round shape. When grown on mainland land, they remain green even at maturity, but when grown along the coast they develop quite a light red blush with some golden yellow color. The flesh is firm, with minimal fiber, with a sweet classic mango flavor with a little crunch. The seed is monoembryonic.

The trees have a spiny growth habit that can make them look "ugly", and they are also moderately vigorous trees. Keitt ripens from July to September, with some fruit lasting into October.
